The Prophets ['Alaihim as-Salaam] are Alive!!

The Prophets ['Alaihim as-Salam] are Alive!!

The Ahl as-Sunnah wal Jama'ah Maslak e Aala Hazrat holds an obstinate belief that the Prophets Alaihim as-Salam are Alive and life of the Prophets Alaihim as-Salam in their graves is firmly established through authentic and explicit proofs. The great Hadith Master, Imam Bayhaqi compiled them in a separate book. Imam Jalal Al-Suyuti, Master of Hadith, also authored a book on this topic. May Allah Most High have mercy on them both. Master of Hadith Ibn Hajar RadiaAllahu anhu says:

"Al-Bayhaqi compiled a brilliant book regarding the life of prophets Alaihim as-Salam in their graves in which he mentions the hadith of Anas, RadiaAllahu anhu 'The prophets Alaihim as-Salam are alive in their graves praying', which he transmits from the channel of Yahya Ibn Abu Katheer, who is a rigorously authenticated transmitter, on the authority of Al-Mustalim Ibn Sa'eed, whom Ahmad and Ibn Hibban deem reliable, on the authority of Al-Hajjaj Al-Aswad (a.k.a. Ibn Abu Ziyad Al-Basri), whom Ahmad and Ibn Ma'een deem reliable, on the authority of Thabit, on the authority of him."

Abu Ya'la also transmits it in his Musnad from this avenue. Al-Bazzar transmits it, but it appears with him on the authority of Hajjaj Al-Sawwaf, which is an error. Al-Hajjaj Al-Aswad is the correct name, as is explicitly mentioned in the narration of Al-Bayhaqi, which he rigorously authenticates.

Witness from Qur'an al-Kareem

ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala says in the Holy Qur'an:

ولا تحسبن الذين قتلوا في سبيل الله أمواتا بل أحياء عند ربهم يرزقون

And do not ever assume that those who are slain in Allah's cause, are dead; in fact they are alive with their Lord, receiving sustenance. [Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:169]

Qadi Thanaullah Pani Patti writes under this verse:

"One group of scholars believes that this life is specific to martyrs. I believe that it is not specific to them, rather, the life of the Prophets Alaihim as-Salam is superior to theirs and the effects of this are more apparent such as marriage being prohibited for the wives of the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam after his demise whereas the widow of a martyr can remarry. The Siddiqin hold a higher rank than martyrs and the Salihin, meaning the Awliya, are adjoined to them as is the order in the verse, Of the Prophets Alaihim as-Salam and the truthful and the martyrs and the righteous. This is why the gnostics says that our souls are our bodies and our bodies are our souls. It is mass transmitted from many Awliya that they help their friends and damage their enemies. Allah guides whom He wills." [Tafsir Mazhari, Vol. 1, Page 151]

Qadi Thanaullah has proven the life of ProphetsAlaihim as-Salam, Siddiqin and Awliya after their demise and also that they help and assist by the will of Allah.

Qadi Shawkani writes:

There is a verse of the Qur’an that martyrs are alive, are given sustenance and that their life is physical. What will be the state of Prophets and Messengers? The hadith proves that Prophets Alaihim as-Salam are alive in their graves and has been narrated by Imam Munziri and graded Sahih by Imam Bayhaqi. [Nayl al-Awtar, Vol. 3, Page 282]

Imam Jalal al-Din Suyuti RadiaAllahu anhu writes:

The Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam is alive in his blessed grave. This is proven from either the generality of the verse or the meaning that is derived from it. [al-Hawi lil Fatawa, Vol. 2, Page 149]

Ahadith on the Life of the Prophets Alaihi wa sallaam

1. Hadrat Abu al-Darda’ Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said,

إن الله حرم على الأرض أن تأكل أجساد الأنبياء فنبي الله حي يرزق

“Indeed Allah has made it Haram (forbidden) upon the earth to eat the bodies of the Prophets. Thus, the Prophets of Allah are alive and are given their sustenance.”

Sunan Ibn Maja, Vol. 5, Page 207, Hadith 1706

Mishkat al-Masabih, Vol. 1, Page 304, Hadith 1366

Hadrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq “Muhaddith-e-Dehwli” states under the commentary of this Hadith:

"The Prophets of Allah are alive in their graves, just as they were alive in this world." [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at – Vol. 1 Page 576]

Imam Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari RadiaAllahu anhu states under the commentary of this Hadith:

"There is no difference between the life of the Prophets after their demise and the life of them in this world. This is why it has been stated that the Awliyah (pious friends of Allah, the Most Exalted) do not die, but in fact, move from one place (the world) to another (the Hereafter). " [Mirqat – Vol. 2 Page 212]

2. Hadrat Aws ibn Aws Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said,

إن الله حرم على الأرض أجساد الأنبياء

“Allah has made the (eating of the) bodies of the Prophets Haram (unlawful) on the earth.

A sound (sahih) tradition related on the authority of Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi by Ahmad in his Musnad, Ibn Abi Shaybah in the Musannaf, Abu Dawud in the Sunan, Nisa'i in his Sunan, Ibn Majah in his Sunan, Darimi in his Musnad, Ibn Khuzaymah in his Sahih, ibn Hibban in his Sahih, Hakim in the Mustadrak, Tabarani in his Kabir, Bayhaqi in Hayat al-anbiya', Suyuti in Anba' al-adkhiya, Dhahabi who confirmed Hakim's grading, and Nawawi in the Adhkar.

Hadrat Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari states under the commentary of this Hadith:

"Indeed the Prophets are alive in their graves." [Mirqat – Vol. 2 Pg. 209]

Hadrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq “Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi” states under the commentary of this Hadith:

"The Prophets Alaihim as-Salam are alive and everyone believes that they are alive; there is no disagreement in this. Their life (in their graves) is the real, physical life (which they possessed in this world); not like the martyrs whose life is only spiritual." [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at – Vol. 1 Page 574]

3. Hadrat Anas Ibn Malik RadiaAllahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam said,

الأنبياء أحياء في قبورهم يصلون

"The Prophets are alive in their graves, praying to their Lord".

A sound (sahih) tradition related on the authority of Anas ibn Malik Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho by: al-Bazzar in his Musnad, Abu Ya`la in his Musnad (7:445), Ibn `Adi in al-Kamil fi al-du`afa', Tammam al-Razi in al-Fawa'id, al-Bayhaqi in Hayat al-anbiya' fi quburihim, Abu Nu`aym in Akhbar Asbahan, Ibn `Asakir in Târeekh Dimashq, al-Haythami in Majma` al-zawa'id (8:144), al-Suyuti in Anbâ' al-adhkiya' bi-hayat al-anbiya', and al-Albani, in Silsilat al-ahadith al-sahihah.

Imam Jalal al-Din Suyuti Radia Allahu anhu comments:

"The life of the Prophet, Salallahu alaihiwasalam, in his grave, and that of the rest of the prophets is known to us as definitive knowledge (`ilman qat`iyyan)

4. Hadrat Anas Ibn Malik RadiaAllahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam said,

ليلة أسري بي مررت على موسى وهو يصلي في قبره

"The night I was enraptured to my Lord I saw Mûsa standing in prayer in his grave".

A sound (sahih) tradition related on the authority of Anas and others by Muslim (4:1845), Nasa'i (3:216), and Bayhaqi in the dala'il al-nubuwwa (2:247) and the Hayât. Some mention the beginning (in parentheses), while others omit it.

5. Hadrat Abu Harayra RadiaAllahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam said,

ما من أحد يسلم على إلا رد الله على روحى حتى أرد عليه السلام

"No-one greets me except Allah has returned my soul to me so that I can return his salâm".

From Abu Hurayra, in Abu Dawud (6:214) with a sound (Sahih) chain. This hadith has been adduced by the scholars as the legal proof for the validity and modality of visiting and greeting the Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him.

Imam Jala al-Din Suyuti RadiaAllahu anhu said that

"radda" means "`ala al-dawâm," i.e. permanently, and not temporarily. In other words, Allah does not return the rûH and take it back, then return it again and then take it back again, but He returned it to the Prophet permanently, and the Prophet is alive permanently.

Sakhawi, Ibn Hajar al-`Asqalâni's student, said:

"As for us (Muslims) we believe and we confirm that he is alive and provided for in his Grave" [al Qawl al Badee` Page 161]

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

"It is obligatory knowledge to know that his body is in the earth tender and humid (i.e. as in life), and when the Companions asked him: 'How is our greeting presented to you after you have turned to dust' he replied: 'Allah has defended the earth from consuming the flesh of Prophets,' and if his body was not in his grave he would not have given this answer." [al-RûH Page 58]

Ibn Hajar al-Haythami wrote in al-Jawhar al-Munazzam:

"The proofs and the transmitted texts have been established as authentic in the highest degree that the Prophet is alive and tender... that he fasts and performs pilgrimage every year, and that he purifies himself with water which rains on him."

6. Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood RadiaAllahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam said,

حياتى خير لكم تحدثون ويحدث لكم فإذا أنا مت كانت وفاتى خيرًا لكم تعرض على أعمالكم فإذا رأيت خيرًا حمدت الله وإن رأيت شرًّا استغفرت لكم

"My life is a great good for you, you will relate about me and it will be related to you, and my demise is a great good for you, your actions will be presented to me (in my grave) and if I see goodness I will praise Allah, and if see other than that I will ask forgiveness of him (for you)."

Qadi `Iyad cites it in "al-Shifa" (1:56 of the Amman edition) and Suyuti said in his "Manahil al-Safa fi Takhrij Ahadith al-Shifa" [Page 31 - Beirut 1988/1408]. Ibn Abi Usama cites it in his Musnad from the hadith of Bakr ibn `Abd Allah al-Mazni, and al-Bazzar from the hadith of Ibn Mas`ud with a sound (sahih) chain.

7. It is cited in Subki's Shifa' al-Siqâm fi ziyarat Khayr al-Anâm , where he mentions that Bakr ibn Abd Allah al-Mazini reported it, and Ibn al-Jawzi mentions it through Bakr and then again through Anas ibn Malik in the penultimate chapter of the penultimate section of al-Wafa, both huffaz without giving the isnad. However, Ibn al-Jawzi specifies in the introduction of al-Wafa that he only included sound traditions in his book. He also mentions the version through Aws ibn Aws:

"The actions of human beings are shown to me every Thursday on the night of (i.e. preceding) Friday." [See also FatH al-Bâri 10:415, al-Mundhiri's Targheeb wa al-Tarheeb 3:343, and Ahmad 4:484]

Sayings of the Exalted Scholars

Sayings of the scholars regarding the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam being alive are so numerous that they cannot be estimated. Only a few are mentioned here.

1. Imam ibn al-Haj writes:

Our scholars say that those who visit the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam should believe that he is alive and they are present before him because there is no difference between his life and demise in that he sees the nation and knows their states, intentions and thoughts. All of this is apparent to him and none of it is hidden. [al-Madkhal, Vol. 1, Page 282]

2. Imam ‘Ali Qari commentates on the hadith, When a believer sends salutations upon me:

It means that the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam is occupied in seeing the light of Allah. Allah turns the attention of the Prophet’s soul so that he may reply to the salam of people. Otherwise, the relied upon creed is that the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam is alive in his blessed grave like the other Prophets are alive in their graves in the presence of their Lord. Their souls are connected to the upper realm like they were in this world. Their hearts are associated with the upper realm and their bodies are in this world. [Sharh Shifa’, Vol. 3, Page 499]

3. Imam Sayyid Mahmood Alusi writes:

Imam Tabrani has narrated the whole hadith that whichever Prophet passes away, they spend forty days in their grave until their soul is returned to them. I passed by the grave of Musa 'Alaihis Salam on the night of Mi’raj and he was standing in his grave offering salah. This hadith does not mean that they do no stay in their graves and go elsewhere, rather, it means that unlike other dead people, Prophets do not remain dead for more than forty days and their souls are returned to them and they are alive. What does this meaning have to do with the claim that they come out of their graves after forty days? Being alive in the grave does not necessitate coming out of it. I am a believer in the life of the Prophets. [Tafsir Ruh al-Ma’ani, Vol. 22, Page 36]

4. Imam Fakhr al-Din Razi writes:

One miracle of Abu Bakr Siddiq Radi Allahu 'Anhu is that when his body was bought to the blessed grave of the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam, it was said: Peace be upon you. This is Abu Bakr present at your door. Suddenly, the door opened and a voice came from the blessed grave saying: Bring the beloved to the beloved. [al-Tafsir al-Kabir, Vol. 21, Page 86]

5. Shaykh ‘Abdul Haq Muhaddith al-Dihlawi writes:

The last companion to come out of the grave of the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam was Qasham Radi Allahu 'Anhu who said: I saw the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam in his grave and his lips were moving. I moved closer to hear and heard him saying: Oh Allah, forgive my nation. [Madarij al-Nubuwwah, Vol. 2, Page 442]

6. Shaykh ‘Abdul Haq Muhaddith al-Dihlawi writes:

There is agreement on the Prophets being alive and no one disagrees that this life is physical, worldly and real. It is not like the life of martyrs which is spiritual and figurative. [Ashi’at al-Lum’at, Vol 1, Page 574]

7. It has been stated in Nasim al-Riyadh sharh al-Shifa Qadi ‘Iyadh:

The prophets Alaihim as-Salam are alive in their graves living the ‘real’ life which they had in this world. [Nasim al-Riyadh sharh al-Shifa Qadi ‘Iyadh, Vol. 1 Paga 196]

8. In al-Mirqat sharh Mishkat, Imam Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari states:

Undoubtedly, the Messenger of Allah is alive; presented with sustenance; and one can ask from him any kind of assistance whatsoever. [al-Mirqat sharh Mishkat – Vol. 1 Page 284]

9. Hadrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi states in his book Suluk Aqrab al-Subuli bi al-Tawajjuh ila Sayyid al-Rusuli:

Despite the increasing disagreement and disputes amongst the scholars of this Ummah, there is no disagreement in this fact that the Messenger of Allah is alive in his grave; he is present there. There is not even a slightest thought of saying that this life is not real (but majaz - metaphoric). The Holy Prophet is Hadhir-o-Nadhir (present and witnessing) seeing the actions of his Ummah and being presented with them. Those who seek assistance from the Messenger of Allah, and those who draw close to him, he blesses them and is their mentor. The Holy Qur’an states: 'surely you are to die, and they too are to die.' [Surah:39 – al-Zumar, Verse:30]. This means moving away from this world (to the Hereafter). The meaning of the word hayat (life) is the real physcial life after death. [Suluk Aqrab al-Subuli bi al-Tawajjuh ila Sayyid al-Rusuli, Published by Rahimiyah – Deoband – India Pg. 161]

10. Shah Wali Allah Dihlawi writes:

I have felt that it is unique to the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi wa Sallam that he can make his soul take the form of his body. This is what he indicated towards when he said Prophets do not encounter real death; they offer prayers in their graves, perform pilgrimage and are alive. [Fuyudh al-Haramayn, Page 84]

11. The Muhaddith of Makkah, Sayyid Muhammad ‘Alawi al-Maliki writes:

We have mentioned that the life of Barzakh is real and it proven from established texts that the dead – whether Muslim or not – hears, feels and knows. Life, sustenance and entering paradise is not specific to martyrs. This is the true creed which is followed by the Imams of Islam and the majority of Ahlu’s Sunnah. This is why it is not necessary to prove the life of the Prophets because it is more apparent than the Sun and not needy of verification. Moreover, the correct path is to speak of how their lives are superior and perfected. Like the ranks of people in this world differ, so too is the living of the Prophets superior. [Mafahim Yajibu ‘an Tusahhaha, Page 165]

12. After quoting several hadiths that prove the life of Prophets 'Alaihimus Salam, he writes:

The mentioned hadiths and others prove definitively [Qat’i] that the meaning of Prophets passing away is that they are veiled from us and we cannot sense them even though they are present and alive. Such as angels are alive and present but we cannot see them. [Mafahim Yajibu ‘an Tusahhaha, Page 171]

Hazrat Shiekh Asad al-Din Abu Mahfuz Maroof al-Karkhi Radi ALLAHu Anhu

Hazrat Shiekh Asad al-Din Abu Mahfuz Maroof al-Karkhi Radi ALLAHu Anho

HIS POSITION IN THE SILSILA:

Hadrat Asad al-Din Abu Mahfuz Shaykh Ma’roof Ibn Feroz al-Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho is the ninth Imam and Shaykh of the Silsila Aaliyah Qadiriyah Barakatiyah Razaviyah Nooriyah.

BIRTH:

Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho was born in Karkh.

NAME:

His name is Asad al-Din and is famously known as Ma’roof Karkhi and Abu Mahfooz.

HIS FATHER:

His father’s name was Feroz. [Safinat al-Awliyah]

EDUCATION:

He attained all his knowledge under the watchful eye of Hadrat Imam Ali Rida Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho. [Tadhkirat al-Awliya]

HIS EARLY LIFE:

Initially, he was a non-Muslim, but even as a child, he had great love for Islam. He used to always spend his time in the company of Muslim children, and often talked to his parents about accepting Islam. His father was not pleased with this, and enrolled him to study under a Christian Priest. The first question the priest asked him was,

"Tell me my son, how many people are there in your family?" He said, "Myself, my father and my mother." The priest then said, "Very well, now say Esa Alaihis Salam is the third god of three (trinity)." Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "Even during my time as a non-Muslim my heart did not accept to say what he commanded me to. When I refused to say this, he began to beat me severely. The more he beat me, the more I rejected his teaching. He finally became weary of me and asked my father to imprison me. I was thus locked in a room for three days and every day, I was given one bread, which I did not even touch. When I was taken out, I ran away. As I was the only child to my parents, they were very sad and they sent a message to me saying that I should return to them and I would have the right to accept whichever faith I wished, and that they too will accept the same faith. I then went to Hadrat Ali Rida Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and accepted Islam at his hands. I then went home with this most valuable gift of Islam, and alHumdulillah, my parents also accepted Islam." [Tadhkirat al-Awliya, Page 221]

SHAYKH-E-TARIQAT:

He became mureed of Hadrat Habeeb Raa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and was blessed with Khilafat from Hadrat Habeeb Raa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho , Hadrat Ali Rida Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and Hadrat Dawood Taa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho.

HIS TEACHERS:

He studied under the care of Hadrat Ali Rida Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and also attained education from Hadrat Imam al-Aa’zam Abu Hanifa Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho . He attained spiritual training in the care of Hadrat Habeeb Raa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho .

HIS EXCELLENCE:

He was a very pious personality and one of the most distinguished Aarifs of his time. He also served many great personalities such as Hadrat Dawood Taa’ee Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho , who also blessed him with Khilafat. He used to call out the Adhan with true love, and when he would reach the words Ash hadu An Laa Ilaaha illa-Allah, the hair on his body would stand up and his entire beard would become stiff and he would begin to tremble to such an extent in the fear of Allah, that it seemed as if he would fall to the ground.

He would spend lengthy nights in the Masjid making ibaadat, Istighfaar and weeping in the Court of Allah. Hadrat Sirri al-Saqti Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho say, "Whatever I have attained, is through the Sadqa of Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho ."

Sayyidi Abdul Wahab Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "I have not seen anyone who divorced himself from the world, like Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho . His excellence is such, that even his blessed grave is a means of attaining blessings." [Kashf al-Mahjoob]

HIS HABITS AND CHARACTER:

He possessed deep love for the poor and the orphans. Hadrat Sirri al-Saqti Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "I once saw Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho gathering dates on the day of Eid, so I stopped and asked the reason for this. He said, ’That young boy is crying because all the other children have new clothes and he has nothing new on Eid day. I thus, decided to collect some dates, sell them and then buy something for him, so that he is kept busy playing and does not feel uncomfortable on the day of Eid.’" Hadrat Sirri Saqti Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "I said, Huzoor there is no need for you to do this, I will make sure he gets something on Eid. I then took the boy with me and bought him a new set of clothes. After I did this, a Noor (light) entered my heart, which caused me great pleasure and my condition became very different." [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol. 1, Page 287]

ALWAYS IN WUDHU:

Once his wudhu broke, so he immediately made tayammum. Those who saw him do this said, "Huzoor! The river Tigris is right in front of you. Why did you make tayammum?" He said, "It is possible that I may pass away by the time I reach the river Tigris"

HIS ABSTENTION FROM THE WORLD:

Once one of Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi’s Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho friends asked him the following, "What is it that has caused you to abstain from the world and from the creation of Allah, and remain in seclusion, remembering Almighty Allah? Is it the fear of Death and the grave, or the fear of Hell, or the enthusiasm of attaining Jannat?" Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho said, "O My Friend! You discuss such minor things. What are all these worth in front of the creator Almighty Allah? All these are but humble subjects of Almighty Allah. Once you taste the pleasure of his closeness, then you will not think of any of the other things (you have mentioned)."

KARAMAAT:

Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho is also a Sahib-e-Karaamat Wali. He has performed many charismatic marvels, of which only a few are being discussed. Once there was a bandit who was captured by the Governor and sentenced to being hanged. As per the command of the governor, the bandit was hanged and died due to hanging. His body was still hanging from the noose, when Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho passed by. When he saw this scene, he was very troubled, and began to make dua for forgiveness of the deceased. He said, "O Most Compassionate, Most Merciful! This person has attained his punishment for his actions in this world. O Allah! If you forgive him and bless him with respect in Deen, there it shall cause no shortage in Your Treasures of forgiveness." Immediately an unseen voice was heard saying, "Whomsoever prays the Janazah Salaah of the man on the noose, shall attain an exalted status in the hereafter." This voice was heard by the people in the entire town. On hearing this voice, people in town gathered quickly. They removed him from the noose, and gave him proper ghusl and kaffan. Then with much respect, they prayed his Janazah Salaah and buried him. That night a man dreamt that it was the Day of Reckoning, and the man who was hanged, was dressed in the best of clothing and was present in the ranks of the Namaazis. He asked him, how he received such excellence and the man replied, "Almighty Allah accepted the dua of Ma’roof Karkhi and pardoned me." [Masaalik as-Saalikeen, Vol. 1, Page 288]

Hadrat’s uncle was the Governor of the city. Once he was passing through the jungle, when he saw Hadrat Maroof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho sitting on the ground eating bread and there was a dog sitting not far away from him also eating bread which he had thrown to it. His uncle saw this and said, "Why are you having your bread so close to the dog?" On hearing this, Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho looked up and saw a bird flying in the sky. He commanded it to come and sit on his hand. The bird perched itself on his hand but out of respect and modesty, it covered its face and eyes with its wings. Hadrat said, "See, Everything is modest before a man who is modest before Allah."

Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and some of his disciples were passing by the River Tigris, when they saw a group of youth who were engrossed in openly committing sin. On seeing this, some of Hadrat’s disciples requested that he make dua for their destruction, so that they evil habits do not pass over to others. Hadrat asked them all to lift their hands and say Aameen to his duas. He then said, "O Allah! Like you have given them the luxuries and freedom of this world, bless them with freedom and luxury in the hereafter." Everyone was amazed at his dua. He then said, "Do not be hasty. Wait a while and observe." The disciples saw that after a while, the youth saw Hadrat Maroog Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho and immediately broke their musical instruments and and threw away their alcohol. They all began to weep and came to Hadrat and repented sincerely at his hands. Hadrat then looked at his disciples and said, "Did you see, that which I wished for was fulfilled."

GEMS OF WISDOM:

Some of the words of great wisdom that Hadrat mentioned are:

* There are three signs of a true man, to fulfill ones promise, to praise without a motive and to give without being asked to give.
* Protect the tongue from self praise, like you protect it from sinning.
* He who is not a faqeer, is not a man of tasawwuf.
* Close your eyes from all angles even if there is something in front of you.
* Love is not attained through education and training, but is bestowed by Allah.
* The solution to hardships and difficulties is to keep it hidden.
* Even though an Aarif does not keep the bounties, but he is always engulfed by it.
* Without deeds to hope for paradise is a sin. Without the completion of your sunnah to wish for intercession is a betrayal and boastfulness and without being subservient to have expectations of mercy is ignorance and foolishness.
* Those that are hungry for wealth will never attain complete satisfaction.
* To elaborate on a topic that benefits nobody is signs and proofs of being astray.
* Just as you find it distasteful to listen to bad, so too you should safeguard yourself from singing praises.
* Whenever the creator wishes well upon his servant he opens the doors of good deeds upon him.
* Close your eyes to everyone especially never ever look with ill intent towards anybody.
* Love is such a thing that cannot be shown or taught.
* When you forsake this World, leave behind everything for if you have in your heart but even an atom of what belongs to the World then even in prostration you should not be able to forget it.
* Whatever afflicts you from misfortunes and calamities its success is in its secrecy?
* Open shirk is devotion to speech and hidden shirk is to rely on the creation.
* Humbleness is when you meet anyone then regard that person as better than you, whether he be big or small, an 'Alim or a Jahil (ignorant) or a Muslim or a Kafir.
* An intelligent person is he who would do on the first day that which he would do on the third day when he is struck by misfortune.
* It had been asked, “What is the remedy for the troubles of the World?” It was said: “Stay far away from the creation and be close to the creator.”
* It has been said a dervish never is greedy for anything. If somebody gives without asking them he never refuses. When he takes he never hoards or stores.
* A woman’s mentor is her husband, in the search of truth although he himself is not a seeker of the truth.
* If anybody betrays or cheats me in the name of ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala then I will accept the betrayal.
* Even if you see an innovator of religion fly in the air then too you should never accept him.
* Even if a pious person is found committing a sin then too it does not become lawful or permissible.
* The destruction caused by associating with the rich are beyond the boundaries of writing, safeguard yourself! Safeguard yourself!!
* Knowledge is male while action is its opposite i.e. female. Religion is obtained by doing work in the World.
* The person who does a good deed with the intention of rewards in the hereafter is a merchant. The person who does a good deed because of the fear of hell is a slave, just as a slave out of fear of a whipping continues to work. The person who does a good deed for ALLAH SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala alone is noble and free.
* To associate with a sinner is to sanction his sins, and to sanction sins is equivalent to committing it.
* Worship is useless without firm belief.

WISAAL SHARIF: He passed away on a Friday or Saturday, on the 2nd of Muharram, 200 Hijri. After his demise, Hadrat Muhammad bin Abul Hussain Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, that he saw Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho in his dream and he asked him how Almighty Allah had treated him. He said, Almighty Allah pardoned me, not because of my piety but because of what I heard from Hadrat Samaak Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho in Kufa, when he said, ’He who leaves all ties and turns towards Allah, then Allah Almighty Allah sends his Mercy towards him and he turns all his servants in his direction.’ I followed this advice of his and turned completely towards Allah, and with the exception of the Khidmat of Hadrat Ali Rida Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho I left everything else.

Hadrat Sirri al-Saqti Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "I dreamt that Hadrat Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho was seated totally absorbed in the love of Allah, under the Arsh and Almighty Allah said, 'O Angels! Who is this?’ the Angels said, O Allah You are All Knowing. There is nothing hidden from You.' Almighty Allah said, 'This is Ma’roof Karkhi who is drowned in My love and closeness and until he does not make my Deedar he will not regain his consciousness and neither will he gain contentment without my Deedar.'"

MAZAAR SHARIF: His Mazaar Sharif is in Baghdad Sharif. Hadrat Sirri al-Saqti Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho says, "When you are faced with any difficulty, then say, "O Allah! Assist me through the Sadqa of Ma’roof Karkhi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anho ." All your problems shall be solved (inshaALLAH).

Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aal-e-Ahmed Achay Miyan Marehrwi RadiaAllahu anhu

Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aal-e-Ahmed Achay Miyan Marehrwi RadiaAllahu anhu

Qudwat al-Kaamileen, Abul Fadhl Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aal-e-Ahmed Ache Miyan is the thirty sixth Imam and Shaykh of the Silsila Aaliyah Qaadiriyah Barakatiyah Ridawiyyah Nooriyah.

BIRTH:

He was born on the 28th of Ramadan al-Mubaarak 1160 Hijri.

NAME:

His name is Sayyid Aal-e-Ahmed and his title is Ache Miya. His father was has Hadrat Sayyid Shah Hamza.

PREDICTION OF HIS BIRTH:

Hazrat Saahib al-Barkaat Shah Barkatullah said that he would be blessed with a son (descendant) in the fourth generation, who will strengthen the brightness of the Khandaan. He also gave a cloak to his eldest son, Hazrat Sayyiduna Shah Aale Muhammad to pass it over to the child. When the Bismillah Khwaani of Hazrat Ache Mia was taking place, Hadrat Shah Aale Muhammad, seated him down on his lap and said, “This is the child concerning whom my father foretold.”

EDUCATION:

He attained his education under the watchful eye of his father, and also studied tib (medicine) under the tutorship of Kaleem Nasrullah Saahib Marehrwi.

HIS EXCELLENCE:

He was a very powerful Aarif Billah. There was no example to him in Karaamat and knowledge in his time. He was well known for his Mujahida and wazaaif. He personally took care of his disciples and was an excellent example of the character of the Prophet ù. He showed love to all his disciples, but paid special attention to those who came from Badayoun Shareef. He would often say, “Badayoun is our property which was given to us by Huzoor Ghaus-e-Azam RadiaAllahu anhu.”

Once, a person went to the Naqeebul Ashraf of Iraq and asked a question relating to the oneness of Allah. He asked him to travel to India and ask his question to Hazrat Shaykh Abdul Aziz Muhadith-e-Delhwi. The man travelled to India and met Hazrat Muhadithe Delhwi. Hazrat answered his query but he was still not fully satisfied. Hazrat Shaykh Muhadith-e-Delhwi then said that he should travel to Marehrah Shareef and meet with Hazrat Ache Mia , as he would get the most satisfying answer from him. Hazrat spent most of his time in Ibaadat. With the exception of his five daily Salaah, he always performed Salaatul Maaqoos and many other wazeefas and amals. He had a special pattern in his daily life. He would wake up in the third portion of the night, make fresh wudhu and then perform his Tahajjud Salaah. He then raised his hands and made dua for prosperity in Deen and for the maghfirat of those close to him. After this, he would read the Kalima Shareef aloud eleven times. The door of the house would then be closed, and none would be allowed to enter. He would go into his room for a while and then enter the Khanqah Shareef. He would then sit in the company of the dervishes and fulfill their needs, and as a manner of encouragement, he would revise some of their wazaaif. He would then enter the Dargah Shareef, and first make Fateha at the Mazaar of his father. He would then make Fateha at the Mazaar of his beloved mother and all his other forefathers. He would go into the garden, which was adjacent to the Dargah. He would lay a carpet and sit under a fruit tree. After a while, he would then go into the Khanqah again. This was the open court, where everyone was allowed to present his or her problems and difficulties before him. He trained his disciples with firmness. He very seldom gave wazifas and amals to ordinary people. Like his predecessors, he assisted those who needed financial assistance etc, very discreetly. He ate two or three thin rotis with some gravy or moong dhall for lunch. He would then rest for a while (Qailullah). He would then make fresh wudhu and pray his Zohar Salaah. He would then become engrossed in the recitation of the Holy Quran. He would then go to the Khanqah and read the wazifa of Duroods. He would then pray Asar Namaaz at the Musjid and return to the Khanqah. He would go into the Musjid for Maghrib Salaah and then pray the Khatm-e-Khajegaan after Maghrib, and then return to the Khanqah. He would then sit a while with his Khaadims who showed great respect and honour to him. He would then pray his Esha Salaah and the doors would be closed.

BOOKS AND TREATIES:

One of the most famous books written by Hazrat Ache Mia is a book called Aa’in-e-Ahmadi, another book was a compilation of wazeefas and special amals. He also wrote the famous Adaabus Saalikeen and the Diwan Ash’aar.

HIS KARAAMATS:

Janaab Shaykh Rasool Bakhsh says that once a soldier came to meet Hazrat. He suffered from leprosy and thus stood very far away from Hazrat. Hazrat saw him and called him closer. He said that he was not worthy of coming too close. Hazrat again asked him to come closer.

When he came close to Hazrat, Hazrat placed his hand over the area that was affected with white patches and said, “There is nothing here” When the man looked, he found that there was no sign of the illness.”

It is in Asaar-e-Ahmadi that a person from Bukhara came to Marehrah Shareef. He performed Zohar Namaaz at the Khanqah and then presented himself before Hazrat Ache Mia RadiaAllahu anhu . He said, “I heard your name and came here to gain spiritual excellence, as I do not have the ability to make Mujahida etc. I wish to attain this without any striving, and just through your blessed sight.” Hazrat smiled at him and said, “You wish to attain such a huge valuable and yet you do not wish to go through any strenuous exercise?”

One person from amongst those seated in the gathering mocked the man and said, “Do you think that it is some type of sweet, that it can just be put into your mouth?”

On hearing this, Hazrat said, “Do not say such a thing. Nothing is far from the Power of Allah.” Hazrat then gave him a Durood Shareef and asked him to read it. That night, he read the Durood Shareef and was blessed with seeing the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam in his dream. The man’s entire life changed in a few moments. The mystical secrets dawned upon him and he entered the world of Tasawwuf. In the morning, he went to Hazrat Ache Mia RadiaAllahu anhu and said, “Last night, the Prophet Salallahu alaihiwasalam said to me, ‘after every century, there will be such a person in my Ummah, who will revive my Deen.” He said, “Huzoor! In this Century, you are that personality.”

Molvi Riyaazudeen Sahawani, the Khalifa of Hazrat Ache Mia writes as follows in Gulshan-e-Abraar:

A villager came to Hazrat and became mureed. After becoming mureed, he did not get the opportunity of coming to the Khanqah for a very long time. One year, he managed to present himself at the Khanqah for the Urs of Hazrat Sayyid Hamza RadiaAllahu anhu. The Khanqah was filled with thousands of devotees’ and disciples. The man thought that Hazrat had thousands of mureeds and new groups of people become his mureed on a daily basis. He thus thought that it was not going to be possible for Hazrat to recognize him. After a while, he managed to reach Hazrat Ache Mia RadiaAllahu anhu and presented his salaam to him and spoke a few words. Hazrat then pointed him out and called him close. He asked about him and about his village. Hazrat then said, “You take the flock of your fellow villagers with you when you go to graze your own flock. How do you recognize your own flock from those of the others?” He answered by explaining the method that is used to differentiate the flocks. Hazrat then said, “Mia! This Faqeer also recognizes his flock in the same way. There is a (spiritual) string of love that is around their necks.” Hazrat had a small trunk, which was called Ghala-e-Ghausiyah. He kept his money in this small trunk. He distributed money to the needy, took care of the Khaadims and financed the entire Khanqah, but there was never a shortage in this trunk. This too was a Karaamat of Hazrat Ache Mia RadiaAllahu anhu.

HIS CHILDREN:

Hazrat married Fazal Faatima, the daughter of Sayyid Ghulam Ali Salharwi Bilgiraami. He was blessed with a son and a daughter. His daughter passed away on the 11th of Rabi ul Awwal 1196 Hijri and his son Hazrat Saa’in Saahib passed away just a few days after his bismillah khwaani due to fever, on the 13th of Rabi ul Awwal 1196 Hijri.

hume qurbaan ho jana sikha do aie raza utho..
qayamat humpe hogi tum agar bhule qayamat me,

tum unki jholiyan bhar do bhala kar do raza utho..
qayamat hogi jab hogi zamana ab ye kehta hai,
kafan sarkao bahaar aao meshar hai bpa utho..
hamari bad naseebi thi ki tum hi uth gaye sar se,
hume saaye me ab lelo tum aie zille huma utho..
tumhare dekhne ko dil tadapta hai qayamat hai,

''I was born six months before Hazrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho), but He is much more greater than I am. And he has been blessed with a very exalted status. The Truth is, that Hazrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho) is Qutbul Irshaad. I am his cousin, and one who live with him in the same house. We both spent our childhood together, but I never saw him waste any time playing (like other children). Take note of this statement of mine, 'If you take a bright light and search the entire earth, then By Allah, you will never find a Sheikh like Hazrat Mufti-e-Azam (Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho).'
